PIANIST & PIANO COACH
Concerts
Musician, cultural entrepreneur, piano coach. That is in short what I am. Ever since my childhood I have been fascinated by the possibilities of the piano. I completed my master's degree in classical piano at the Messiaen Academy in Zwolle/Arnhem. I specialized myself in classical solo playing, classical song accompaniment and I also studied jazz and pop music. This has made me into an all-round pianist. I studied with teachers Frank van de Laar, Tilmar Junius and Marien van Niekerk.
Ever since my studies I have been giving concerts in various countries. At the moment I regularly give solo concerts in the Canary Islands, a place where my heart lies. I love to play works by the Spanish classical composers Mompou and Albéniz, but also works by Rachmaninov, Skrjabin, Brahms, Debussy and more from the late romantic oeuvre.
As a pianist and lover of language, I notice that music and language are inextricably linked. I tell a story when I play the piano. And I have dialogues when I make music with others. Accompanying singers is one of my passions. This often concerns the classical song repertoire, but sometimes also jazz and cabaret.
In 2012, I released the album Oblivion with Trio Zift (a chamber music trio with Ciska van der Weij on clarinet and Marit Berends on cello). Oblivion has been promoted by Radio 4 and includes works by Piazzolla and Zemlinsky, among others. With Trio Zift I played in chamber music concert series, in various theaters and also at festivals including Uitmarkt Amsterdam.
